How do I unsubscribe from the LearnCentral Community Digests?
If you wish to change the digest notification (from daily to weekly or never), please follow the steps below:
1. Go to your profile page (Home in the Navigation bar)
2. Click on 'Edit profile' link under your profile picture
3. Click on 'Contact Information and Notifications' tab
4. In the section Notification Setting, change one or both digests
to your preference, then click on 'Save' button at the bottom of the
form to confirm.
Your changes will take place immediately.
What is LearnCentral?
Sponsored by Elluminate, LearnCentral is a new social learning network for education. What is Elluminate's role in LearnCentral?
We think of ourselves as a facilitator or guide within the LearnCentral environment, much like a teacher in the learner-centered classroom. As part of the global education community, each of you has something to contribute and something to learn. Elluminate's role is to provide an open online environment where this can happen freely and easily as well as the enabling technology for real-time meeting and live events.
Is Elluminate technology part of LearnCentral?
When you join LearnCentral, you get your own free virtual meeting room with two-way VoIP, multipoint video, interactive whiteboard, application sharing, and more. Elluminate vRoomTM enables you to connect with up to two other people or locations, such as classrooms, to communicate, collaborate, and educate worldwide. Look for deeper integration with Elluminate tools in later releases of LearnCentral.
What if I want to hold larger events or meetings?
We make the Elluminate virtual classroom available for larger groups at no charge with the condition that the session and recording are made public. This gives us an opportunity to build a resource repository or knowledgebase that can be used by all LearnCentral members.
How is LearnCentral moderated?
The network is moderated by a real person who is passionate about Web 2.0, educational technology, and social networking, among other things. Elluminate's Social Learning Consultant Steve Hargadon is also the founder of the Classroom 2.0 social network as well as a very active as a blogger, podcaster, interviewer, webinar host, and columnist.
Who owns the content and information on LearnCentral?
While you retain complete ownership of all the content you contribute on LearnCentral, most content and information is expected to be public. However, you can choose to post your work under a Creative Commons license, which enables you to communicate which rights you wish to reserve or waive. LearnCentral materials provided by Elluminate are for your personal and non-commercial use in compliance with any license terms accompanying the materials.
What is LearnCentral's policy on privacy?
At LearnCentral we are committed to maintaining the privacy, accuracy, and security of your personal information, which we collect to enable you to participate in the community and to enable us to manage our relationship with you. Certain information, like your name and email address is required, while other information, like your birth date, is not. Your contact information is available only to those you choose to connect with. You can also create private groups for which you must approve members.
Why was LearnCentral developed?
We listened to those in the academic community who told us they wanted a destination for education, a way to connect, collaborate, and learn with others on a global level. Elluminate responded by partnering with former developers of Yahoo for Teachers to create a new kind of online environment that combines a social network, learning community, and grassroots movement to improve education.
